FROM THE DESK OF CHAIRMAN / CHIEF EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR, LAHDC KARGIL

Kargil, curving out of the erstwhile district of Ladakh, became a separate district in 1979. Comparing with the neighboring, Kargil district, remained in utter backwardness particularly in the field of education. Lacking standard and quality education in schools, has kept the students from appearing in the competitive examinations and professional colleges. As a result, the district received great set-back in its development and progress. That is why the Hill Council decided to give it first priority to Education. The Hill Council, no doubt has daunting challenges before it, demanding strong commitment and attention as well as resources to meet the challenges, it is determined to make concrete progress towards the goal of quality education in schools by providing all kinds of moral and material support to the

teaching community and making them accountable to the community at the same time.

Second priority to the Power Sector. The Hill Council, Kargil will do its best to ensure generate more Power from major as well as minor Hydel Projects besides initiating Mini Power Projects as was installed at Ticket by Science and Technology Department.

The Hill Council will leave no stone-unturned in opening more employment avenues and filling up of the vacant posts creating an atmosphere of work culture in the offices of the district.

A lot more has to be done in all other sectors for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Kargil. From my desk, I appeal to the District Officers and their functionaries to be punctual to their duties and help put the developmental scenario in a speedy way. A sound work culture by eradicating the menace of corruption is the only alternative for putting Kargil on the path of development.

I am confident that the Hill Council will come up to the expectations of the people that they have reposed in them. Me and my Executive Councilors and the Councilors being at the helm of affairs, will always be at the service of the people of Kargil.
